Since most folks haven't really heard of furries, it's probably best to start this thing off with a basic definition of what furry fandom is actually all about:
Furry fandom is a meta-genre that originated from the science fiction and fantasy fandoms. Members of the furry fandom, known as furry fans, collect items featuring anthropomorphic animals characters—commonly known as furries. "Anthropomorphic" means having human traits (such as walking on two feet, talking, wearing clothes, living in houses, etc.). Such items may include popular animated cartoons, comic books, artwork, stories, and costumes. Today, there are more than a dozen furry conventions across the United States.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.
